At a time when ecology is more important than ever in our daily newspapers, Marseilleveyre reminds us how much nature produces wonders.

A Mediterranean flora savagely beautiful and preserved

Meaning in Provencal "See Marseille", the cove of Marseilleveyre is the first wild cove of the coast. Accessible on foot (in 45 minutes) or by boat and installed in front of the Archipelago of Riou, it offers a unique green panorama since the creek shelters a particular flora endowed with numerous endemic species.
Mysteriously, the rock of this cove is dotted with bushy garrigue strands. This peculiarity due to a special ecosystem developed over the years earned him the nickname "leopard skin".
Aleppo pines, cade juniper, fern, sarsaparilla, succulents coexists in this small cove of Marseille and together constitute a natural landscape at the edge of the water.
Dream spot for swimming, Marseilleveyre is one of the favorite crossing points of Marseille in the beautiful days arrived. Its translucent water promises a pleasant and refreshing swim.

The Riou Archipelago: wild uninhabited islands

You can not miss them from the Marseille coast or by boat: the islands of Riou Archipelago are easily identifiable off the Phocaean city. Located in front of the creek of Marseilleveyre, Riou Archipelago brings together pretty islands which are forbidden to access (only the island of Riou can be visited on foot).
Spread over 160 hectares facing the massif des calanques, Riou Archipelago is a remarkable place in the Mediterranean. As proof: Riou Archipelago is the only archipelago of the French coast where nature expresses itself in its purest version.

Riou Archipelago: nature reserve of the Mediterranean fauna

In Marseille, the Riou stands out for its exceptional biodiversity. Inhabited for many years and preserved in its deepest nature, the animals of the Provençal fauna have taken possession of the islands and islets of the Phocean archipelago for many years. Maïre Island, Tiboulen de Maïre, Jarre Island, Isle of Jarron, Plane Island, Moyade Island are today the exceptional homes of many species of seabirds.
The Mediterranean birds are now the privileged inhabitants of these exceptional places and it is thanks to a strict regulation that the fauna and flora are preserved within this jewel of nature at sea.
Main island of the Archipelago culminating at 190 meters of altitude, the island of Riou is the only island of the whole which can be visited. Its white limestone cliffs to the south are joined by sand and pebble beaches in the north of the island.

Podestat, the Queyrons, the Escu, three creeks to discover near the Archipelago of Riou

During your sea trip near the island of Riou, discover pretty wild and discreet creeks. Only accessible by boat, the wild coves of Podestat, Queyron and Escu face Riou Archipelago and adjoin the famous coves of Marseilleveyre.

Sormiou

A must-see creek in Marseille, Sormiou is without a doubt one of the most popular and beloved coves in Marseille. Located in the southern districts of Marseille in the 9th arrondissement, Sormiou offers an incredible postcard decor. Turquoise water, Provencal vegetation and beach mingle to create a breathtaking landscape.
During your boat trip with Croisières Marseille Calanques, discover the cove of Sormiou under all its seams and enjoy an unobstructed view of the entire massif and small typical fishermen's cabins.

Calanque de Sormiou: a turquoise blue sea adored by divers

Like most coves, Sormiou offers an exceptional landscape. Formerly inhabited by fishermen from Provence and peasants, the creek of Sormiou still retains the traces of its past through the small fishing huts with basic comfort installed at the edge of the water or the terraces, crops in floors installed in the massif.
But Sormiou is above all an ideal spot for diving enthusiasts. Professional and amateur divers visit all season to admire the splendor of the seabed and the diversity of fish, crustaceans and shells that abounds in the creek.
And it must be said that the turquoise water is attractive: who has never wanted to take a dip in a beautiful clear water to cool off on a hot summer day!

Cosquer cove

Discovered by Henri Cosquer in 1985, the Cosquer Cave is a place full of history in the middle of the Mediterranean. Located in the heart of the Triperie cave, this underwater cave boasts rock paintings dating back 27,000 years!
If the cave is today 37 meters deep, at the time, the water level in the cave was between 120 and 150 meters lower, which explains why men and women could have access to it.
During your visit on one of the boats of our fleet, discover the Cosquer cave by the sea approach of this place classified Historical Monument.

Cave Cosquer : an enigmatic paleolithic place rich in history in Marseille

The sea often hides secrets in its depths. The proof with the cave Cosquer ! Buried 37 meters below the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, this underwater cave is accessible only by a submerged trail at the foot of Cape Morgiou.
Discovered in the 80s by a professional diver who gave it its name, this cave is now closed to the public for conservation reasons.
It was after extensive research that Paleolithic paintings were revealed to the general public. And even more amazing: some paintings would represent penguins!
As a result of this discovery, the cave was classified as a Historic Monument in the same way as the Cave of the Triperie or the Cave of the Fox, all three present in the protected massif of the creeks of Marseille.
Inaccessible to the public, this cave can be approached by boat while going in the Triperie cave.

Morgiou

Small paradise, Morgiou is one of the calanques not to miss when visiting the National Park of Calanques. Nestled in the heart of a rich Provencal fauna, this cove next to the cove of Sormiou is the penultimate cove of our stroll in the sea in the creeks of Marseille.
Preserved while still being very touristy, Morgiou attracts thousands of hikers taking the Col des Escourtines but also boaters who love to come and anchor their boats in this exceptional cove.

Morgiou, a sublime creek to discover by the sea

If hikers love this creek, what about the point of view that offers you a boat ! From the sea, the cove of Morgiou reveals all its character and its assets. From a boat, you can discover the Morgiou Cape which separates Morgiou from its neighbor near the creek of Sormiou. Its rocky limestone cliffs frame an idyllic setting and a translucent turquoise sea.
At the heart of the creek, a small fishing port and small cabanons in Marseille bring the typical Provencal spirit to this paradise setting.
As in the majority of calanques, the vegetation is preserved to the maximum despite the frequentation. Aleppo pines, juniper or cottony rockrose come to dress the rocks naturally. This mode of floristic development, which is poor in water, creates an exceptional setting throughout the creek and underlines the natural splendor of this creek located in the southern districts of Marseille.

Calanque of Sugiton, a wild beauty

Located between the calanque of Morgiou and the cove of the "Oeil de Verre" near the university campus of Luminy, Sugiton is a unique cove. Very wild, it is surrounded by high rock cliffs and is therefore quite difficult to access even by hiking trails.

Over the years, this intimate cove has become a real paradise for naturist lovers in search of a protected place. However, the dangerousness of the pedestrian access to this creek limits its use since a tragic accident dating back to 2005.

The creek of Sugiton: two small creeks in front of the island "The Torpedo"

Do you like Morgiou for its natural side? You will love Sugiton!

With only two coves, this creek is remarkable for its incredibly wild side. The two small coves of the creeks have small pebble beaches. Installed against high cliffs, the beaches of this creek are difficult to access and access to the creek of the Fallen Stones, the most protected and intimate creeks located east of the creek is completely prohibited since 2005.

There is really only boat that you can admire the gratness of this cove!

About ten meters from the creek of Sugiton, you can discover the rocky island nicknamed the Torpilleur. Called this way because of its strong resemblance to a military boat, the islet Torpilleur is a recognizable point of this wild cove.
