At 37 m depth , the fabulous cave Cosquer was discovered in 1985 by Henri Cosquer Its paintings are the work of men and women living in this place 27 000 years ago, when the water level was between 120 and 150 meters below the current level.

The history of the Cosquer Cave Marseille

The Cosquer cave is the only paleolithic decorated cave discovered by humans in south- eastern France. It is also peculiar by its immersed access through a tunnel 37 meters deep at the foot of Cape Morgiou. Discovered in 1991, it is now closed to the public.
